Missions & Ministries

Mission WORK:

Morton Community UCC supports many local missions through donations made annually by church members. Some of the local charities include: Midwest Food Bank, Dream Center, Guardian Angel Home, Crisis Nursery/Crittenden Center, and Friendship House. A yearly donation is also given to Our Church Wider Mission (OCWM) Fund which supports projects throughout the world. We support several in-house ministries such as the community Caring Cupboards, Angel Tree Christmas gifts for those in need, weekend Snack Packs for local school children, and a Medical Equipment Loan Program for our members.  CUCC continues to be dedicated to finding ways to serve others.

MINISTRIES:

Our church offers many opportunities for engagement. We have youth programs, Bible studies, prayer groups/book studies, mission activities, small gathering groups, fellowship activities, and music ministries. We encourage members and friends to bring forth their ideas of what they would like to see happening within our church family and beyond. We always have room to grow....

YOUTH education

CUCC cares for & supports children from birth with a variety of age-appropriate experiences. Our nursery is staffed on Sundays and Children’s Church, ages 5 years – 5th grade, is held during the Sunday worship service. VBS is offered each summer. Fun fellowship activities are held monthly, and Confirmation classes are offered to middle school & high schoolers to explore their faith in preparation for becoming members.

It’s our goal that through a variety of learning experiences, youth can shape their lives to the ways Jesus taught. We help youth explore their faith by providing opportunities for them to not only discuss and think about God, but also to experience God.

Please contact our Youth Director with questions or for more information about any program or activity.

ADULT EDUCATION

We have several opportunities for adults to explore and grow in their faith.  A Bible Study is held on Tuesday evenings, with focus and discussion on the texts for the upcoming service.  There is also a Prayer group that meets Thursday mornings that offers comfort, support, and purpose.  We are also looking to expand our offerings on Sunday mornings, so ideas and inspiration are welcome.  Be part of creating an education experience that speaks to you!

Women's fellowship

Our Women's Fellowship host various events throughout the year and sponsors several of our mission projects.  We hold a plant sale every spring and also love to gather people together for food and fun.  Our Angel Tree, Circle of Concern, and more stem from our Women's Fellowship group. No idea is too big, little, or silly for us!  We welcome the joy and laughter that come when women come together in love and service.

Music Groups

At CUCC, we boast one of the few remaining pipe organs in our community, and we love to listen to it fill the sanctuary! In addition to this wonderful tradition, we have a Bell Choir and Senior Choir for adults.  For our youth, the Crystal Bells are a "no practice needed" favorite.  We are working on filling parts for a Praise Band, so if you or someone you know has a talent and/or interest in playing or singing with us, let us know!  We also have guest performers from time to time, especially during Advent, when feature an entire service of lessons and carols.

Community Groups

Not only do we seek to do service in the community, we strive to be a place FOR our community.  Our church welcomes several groups into our building for meetings, workshops, celebrations, events, concerts, and more.  If you are looking for a place to gather, whether it is every week or just once, let us know!  We would love to invite you in!

Volunteer Groups

We have several volunteer opportunities at CUCC.  While the Church Council is the governing body of the church, volunteers are needed in all aspects of our church life.  From serving meals, to preparing communion, to hosting coffee fellowship, and all things in between, volunteers are an essential part of our congregation.  We provide service opportunities within our local community by partnering with local organizations like the Community Harvest Food Pantry, Friendship House, Midwest Food Bank, and more.  Throughout the year, we also host other events, like our annual Pancake Day, that provide volunteer opportunities.
